N. sibuyanensis
Now officially named, this beautiful new species was found by us on the upper windswept slopes of Mt.Guiting guiting on Sibuyan Island, Central Philippines in October 1996. Belonging closely to the group which include N. ventricosa, burkei and the further new species from Palawan, this plant lacks the upper growth and upper pitchers as in the others and the pitchers attain huge proportions similar in size to N. merrilliana and N. rajah. Growing on the windy upper slopes near where N. argentii is found it has similar habits in that it hides its pitchers among the low stunted heath. Even in glasshouse conditions, it still attempts to hide the pitchers forming long tendrils until a covered area is found.
